Reba Jean Mullen, 96, Hays, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.
She was born August 30, 1917 in Civit, Oklahoma the daughter of Henry C. and Cora B. (McWilliams) Morehead. On October 30, 1938 she married Laurence E. Mullen in La Crosse, Kansas. He died September 8, 1969.
She was a secretary for the Soil Conservation District in LaCrosse for many years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hays, the First United Methodist Women Esther Circle, was very active in her church, and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at Hadley Hospital. She was a graduate of La Crosse Rural High School, and loved crocheting, reading, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, James Mullen and wife Ruth of Hays, and John Mullen of Wichita Falls, TX, a daughter Carole Probasco and husband George of Hays, eight grandchildren, Jill Mullen, Jennifer Bull, Wes Mullen, Scott Mullen, Erin Mullen, John “Kaleo” Mullen, Shelly Mullen, and Jacob Mullen; five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter in law, Elaine Mullen.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Hays. Burial will be at 9:30 am on Friday at the La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of Hays Medical Center, or to the Hays Good Samaritan Society, in care of the funeral home.
