Duane Steinshouer died on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Sheridan County Health Complex at the age of 79. He was born in Hays, Kansas July 31, 1938 to Eldon and Hazel (Suffecool) Steinshouer . He attended Hoxie Grade School and graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the class of 1956. He continued his education by attending college at the College of Emporia, Emporia State College, and graduating from Kansas University with a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy in 1961.
Duane and Elta “Ann” Mickey were married on July 31, 1961 at the Presbyterian Church in Hoxie, Kansas.
Duane had a varied career. He worked for a number of years as a Pharmacist and worked in Panama and Biafra serving with world health organizations. Later, he became a Volunteer Counselor for Valley Hope helping many individuals work through drug and alcohol addiction.
Duane liked doing many things. In his earlier years, he loved to hunt and fish.
Duane is survived by brother, Darrel Steinshouer and wife Sylvia of Wichita, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Marie Mickey and Lois Jameson and husband Dean all of Abilene, Texas; adopted son, Jordan Koehn of Hoxie, Kansas, four nephews, and six nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elta Ann (Mickey) Steinshouer and parents Eldon and Hazel Steinshouer.
A funeral service is planned for Thursday, November 9, 2017, 1:30 P.M. at the Mickey-Leopold funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas. Visitation will be held November 8, 2017 from 1:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. and November 9, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Family will receive friends Thursday, November 8, 2017 from 4:30 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Hoxie.
